What an inglorious existence is afforded the Dung Beetle! Of all the tasty morsels in the natural world, dung is surely low in rank! Imagine being at a banquet filled with the finest delicacies, waiting for the other diners to finish and then eating their scraps. That is what happens to the dung beetle. They eat leftovers. But worse, they eat poo! The fresh fruits and leaves are eaten by larger animals, who absorb all the nutrients they can, and then expel what they can't, along with any toxic materials. The Dung Beetle then eats this, presumably piggybacking on the fact we've done a lot of the digesting already. But imagine relying on another organism's waste entirely for your survival!

Well, imagine no further! Inside plant cells are symbiotic ex-bacteria called Chloroplasts, who consume only the freshest ingredients in the natural world: water, sunlight and carbon dioxide. They feast on this tasty pre-Paleo diet, and then expel the remaining toxic byproduct: Oxygen. They release this poison into the atmosphere, and we, who clearly sit lower in the food chain, we lap it up!
